Hello! I’m David, Senior R&D Engineer at Apple, core team member to deliver the thinnest 2024 iPad Pro with M4 chip, and 2025 iPad Air with M3 chip.
Before that, I got my Ph.D degree in School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette in 2022, and B.S in Electronic Information Science & Technology from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2018
Research Interests: My research is centered on developing efficient machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and large language models (LLMs) for on-device/server application, through a holistic hardware/software co-design approach with a system-level perspective.
Specifically, I focus on on-device ML/DL to enable real-time and resource-efficient intelligence at the edge, advancing LLMs and SLMs for adaptive deployment, and improving the efficiency of large reasoning models (LRMs).
In addition, my work explores federated learning to address privacy and scalability challenges, reinforcement learning for adaptive decision-making under constraints, and computer vision applications to bridge algorithmic innovation with real-world perception tasks.
